She thinks she's writing to an old friend.
He knows it wasn't meant for him, but it bears his name, so he decides to write back.
Was it a twist of fate, or Providence that sent this letter to the wrong address?
Estella is a modern girl who works as a candy maker for the Kellogg’s company and enjoys a lively social life, but she still spends the occasional evening alone with her black cat.
Most of her friends are already married, but Estella is holding out for the right man. When she mails a postcard to an old friend, she hopes for a quick reply. She never dreams it will reach a stranger with the same name.
Edwin is a machinist who has little time to look for a wife. He’s been taking care of his mother and sisters since the death of his father.
He spends his evenings practicing maneuvers with the Michigan National Guard. He's one of the best marksmen in the state--a fact his mother finds ironic since he can't even kill a chicken for his dinner.
Ragtime Bands are the pop music of the day. Edwin writes marches and plays in his own marching band.
When a postcard arrives addressed to a Mr. Edwin Ellis, he realizes it was intended for someone else, but he can’t resist the opportunity to write back.
His band is playing a love song while the train carries Edwin's response from Grand Rapids to Battle Creek.
Estella's heart is racing to its own rhythm as she reaches for the letter because she thinks she recognizes the handwriting.
Hidden in a Trunk for Over a Century
What you are about to read is not fiction, but a real-life conversation. This slice of Americana will whisk you away to 1909--a simpler time where the mail takes days and people have time to care about their neighbors. It's a world where getting the wrong piece of mail might just change your life.

Présentation de l'éditeur
“This book transports you back to a simpler time. When love was mysterious and innocent. It gives you a peek into the history of the past. And it reminds you, how one simple decision can change the course of your life. A truly heartwarming story!”
“Like a box of chocolates, I couldn't wait to open the next letter to treat myself to the morsel contained inside. Sharing Edwin and Estella's relationship unfolding through the eyes of one experiencing the historical events of the era was enriching. I didn't want the book to end.”
“Edwin and Estella would surely blush to know that we are reading over their shoulders and eagerly waiting to see what the other will say next! I loved getting to know this couple through their unassuming, charming correspondence. In addition to this being a real-life romance with a happy outcome, it offers endearing historical snapshots of human dynamics that are humorous at first glance, yet will resonate with anyone who has ever dared to hope for love and acceptance.”

Edwin and Estella’s letters give us a trip into the Progressive Era. The horse and buggy of their childhood will soon be replaced by driving machines. Kodak is providing a new way to preserve memories. Edwin now carries his own camera with him everywhere he goes. Even the breakfast table looks different. The Kellogg brothers have discovered a way to make a flaked cereal to save housewives time making breakfast.
Was it a twist of fate, or Providence that sent this letter to the wrong address? Will Edwin reveal the truth, or keep the conversation going? Will Estella think his practical joke is funny?
Ragtime Bands are the pop music of the day. Edwin writes marches and plays in his own militia marching band. His band is playing a love song while the train carries Edwin's response from Grand Rapids to Battle Creek. Estella’s heart is racing to its own rhythm as she reaches for the letter because she thinks she recognizes the handwriting.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway 1909
Among the treasures in this book, Edwin gives an eye witness account of the opening weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, known today as the home of the Indy 500.
