Her mother cried out, "For the love of Scott! How could this have happened?” Due to her education in the health care field, Jo Hamilton became the liaison between her family and the world-renowned hospital treating her younger brother. She taught her family how to read Scott’s medical chart and to ask pointed questions, no longer leaving his care to the medical professionals who had overdosed him with drugs to the very brink of death in less than three days.

“Jo, you have to tell people what they’ve done to me. You have to tell them!” pleaded her little brother, as he lay writhing in agony.

To help further her goals, Jo Hamilton donates all proceeds from the sale of the book, to the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Scott Hamilton's foundation,The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative. The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative was created to help with cancer research, support cancer patients and their families, and find a cure cancer.

I, too, am a farm boy. I, just like you, played in the cornfields. I too, remember milking the cows, feeding the pigs, and riding my dad’s motorcycle and yet, being from a different part of the world, (Europe) Portugal. Jo Hamilton, born on an Iowa farm in the heartland of America, while in junior high school, published her first short story in the national magazine, "The Student Writer", and received a cash award. As an adult, one of her poems was selected for publication in the poetry book "Sunspots", by Palomar. She was also presented The Golden Poet Award for 1989 in Washington DC by Bob Hope, Helen Hayes, and Willard Scott for the poem "His House". Jo attended school in Minnesota for medical technology. She worked in traditional Western medicine, as a teacher and health care worker, for 27 years. Following the tragic family crisis described in "For the Love of Scott!", by Olmstead Publishing, Jo left the medical field angry, bitter, and disillusioned. Because of this experience, Jo investigated alternative modalities and began writing a new chapter in her own life. She studied the power of energetic healing touch, becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. Jo’s path led her to work as an acute care hospice volunteer. In 2000, Jo became a Licensed Massage Therapist. Besides therapeutic massage, her private practice included aromatherapy, cranial sacral therapy, reflexology, Reiki, and Raindrop Therapy Technique.
