Neuware - Conflict between the church of Rome and the reformers reached its most violent peak in the five years before the Council of Trent in 1545, a council the pope had been delaying for years. Luther had not only given up hope for a 'free, Christian council,' but had also come to the conclusion that the authority of such a council was limited to reaffirming the ancient faith of the apostles. This radical departure from Rome's interpretation of its own authority forms the basis of Luther's new doctrine of the church -- and also of his advice to Protestant princes on the problems of ecclesiastical property. It is this doctrine of the church which is the theme of the three treatises written during this period and included in this volume. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780800603410

But book is NOT a library book, and was never circulated. There are no other such markings in or on the book. Handsome, well-made book bound in heavy-duty cloth-covered boards with embossed gilt lettering on the spine. The book has some age speckling to the closed exterior page edges, otherwise the book itself has no significant defects and is nearly flawless. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners unbumped. Internally Fine condition, all pages are clean and stain-free, there is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings in the text, and all text is sharp and legible. The dustjacket spine is lightly sun-faded and the jacket has faint age-speckles on the reverse side, but the jacket otherwise is quite clean and stain-free, complete and intact, no pieces missing, with only very brief, occasional, minor wear at the jacket corners and edges (owner's label at bottom of spine).
