Item description from seller
Dickens, formally dressed, posed sitting in his chair. Image: 7-9/16" x 6-3/16". Mount: 12" x 10" Dickens sat for Gurney during his 1868 visit to the States, and this is one of those images. Since the silver gelatin process came on the scene in the 1870s, we posit Gurney issued this, and other Dickens' images, from negatives, utilizing the recently discovered photographic process. NB. This the largest photograph of the Inimitable that we've ever handled. Photograph with silver prominent, a bit of waviness to image, overall, VG+. Mount shows light wear, soiling & age-toning, Very Good. Mount with penciled note in lower right corner: "Gurney. N.Y 1868" Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve.
