"Madman Civilization" is a soul-stirring compilation of a powerful lecture delivered by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, the Founder-Ācārya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Spoken at New Orleans Farm on August 1, 1975, this timeless discourse explores Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.49, revealing profound truths about the soul, the illusory nature of modern civilization, and the urgent need for spiritual awakening.
With his signature clarity and compassion, Śrīla Prabhupāda exposes the madness of a godless society and guides us back to a life centered on devotion, self-realization, and eternal knowledge.

Whether you're a lifelong practitioner or a sincere seeker, Madman Civilization will inspire deeper reflection and help you live more consciously — with Kṛṣṇa at the center.
A short summary of the book
-
Just as a person identifies with the body in a dream, people foolishly identify with the temporary body of this life, forgetting past and future lives due to ignorance.
-
True knowledge means understanding that life is continuous and that our current body is a result of previous actions—religious or sinful.
-
Modern civilization, disconnected from spiritual knowledge, behaves like madmen, forgetting past lives and neglecting the future, indulging only in sense gratification.
-
Māyā (illusion) covers our memory of past lives to protect us from the pain of knowing our spiritual degradation, especially when fallen from higher births.
-
The mission of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is to raise people from ignorance to light through devotional service and proper association (sat-saṅga).
-
India is the sacred land where Vedic knowledge is preserved; those born there should realize the value of this knowledge and share it with the world for true welfare.
-
The example of Bharata Mahārāja shows how attachment can lead to downfall, but sincere devotees are given remembrance and another chance by the Lord.
-
In the spiritual world, all beings—flowers, cows, gopīs—serve Kṛṣṇa consciously in their chosen forms, unlike the material world, where everyone imitates service for selfish enjoyment.
-
A simple life of cultivating food, caring for cows, worshiping the Deity, chanting, and growing tulasī brings real peace and success in spiritual life.
-
By following Kṛṣṇa’s instructions with sincerity and avoiding artificial, machine-driven life, one can surely go back to Godhead in this very life.
