Groundnut is an important crop of India, which is used as both oil seed as well as case crop and earns foreign exchange for the country. India is one of the important groundnut growing countries, ranking second in production. Insect pests are probably the main factor limiting the stored grain production. About one quarter and one third of the world grain crop is lost each year during storage. Out of total stored grain pests, the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a most cosmopolitan and secondary pest which attacks numerous crops of agricultural importance. The indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides has almost created comlications of environmental pollution and insecticide resistance. This scenario has led to consider the potential of botanicals as a component of pest management and is eco friendly.
