Synopsis :

"This book is great. The ideas are so easy to put in to practice - I can see the difference in my team already!" Brian Driscoll, Regional Manager SAMSUNG Follow Paul Fowler's story as he gets a longed-for promotion to Sales Manager. It turns out to be a rougher ride than he expected, and in the process he learns how to effectively manage the same people he once worked alongside. Michael Baker and James Davies use a story-telling style to demonstrate the principles of PAMBO - a method of performance management that Michael has been using to great effect in UK businesses for many years. This easy to read story highlights the pitfalls of first-time managers, and through clever narrative and the guiding hand of Jan, Paul discovers powerful, simple tools to help him manage people better. The authors have woven a story together that you'll find yourself reading through very quickly, but reflecting on and using in practice every day after. You can't help but think in terms of PAMBO when you manage your interactions with other people in any circumstances where performance is a key objective. Written for new managers making their early steps into management, this book provides a framework for management that can be absorbed and implemented very quickly. This book is equally useful for Management Trainers who want to inspire their Trainee Managers through the proven, and highly effective, method of story-telling.

À propos des auteurs:

Working with the highest calibre of clients across the private, public and third sector has given Michael a valuable insight into different work cultures. A proud Irishman, his extensive experience in the engineering, financial services, hospitality and manufacturing industries has helped many businesses and organisations grow successful leaders and managers. An MBA graduate of the University of Bath, Michael believes that although leadership is hugely important, the basics of encouraging good performance lie in people management, and thus he researched and developed the PAMBO model.

James never dreamt of running a PR agency or becoming a published author, but that’s life for you! After an extensive learning experience at Swansea University, James held a number of jobs in the PR industry until he decided to strike out for himself and founded Compass Media Relations. A few years of hard work later, he finds himself with a breadth of experience in delivering communications and press coverage for businesses across a wide array of sectors.

On his involvement with PAMBO, James says:

“PAMBO has not only been a fantastic project to work on – it has been a huge learning experience that has made me a better writer, and a better manager.”
