FIRST THOMSON EDITION, 40 line illustrations by Thomson, including frontispiece with tissue-guard, one or two faint spots, endpapers with faint spotting and one light crease, pp. xviii, 249, [i], [ii, adverts], 8vo, original crimson grained cloth, boards with repeated blind-stamped floral and 'M' pattern, backstrip and upper board lettered in gilt, corners slightly knocked, edges faintly rubbed, backstrip ends cockled, pastedown with engraved bookplate (Penton with lion), good. An attractive edition with Thomson's characteristic detailed, witty illustration style, made possible by the photo-mechanical reproduction techniques of the era which allowed fine pen lines to be accurately replicated, to the fore.
