A propos de cet article

Hand-colored map [8 1/4" x 10 3/4"] in mat [15 1/4" x 17 3/4"] from an atlas which accompanied "Mitchell's School and Family Geography." In shrink wrap. With inset map: "No. 16 Map of the Columbia River from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean." With a few areas of light foxing. Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1846 by S. A. Mitchell in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the eastern district of Pennsylvania. Shows Native American tribes. Great Salt Lake is located within Upper or New California. Fremont's Pass is pointed out. Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1792-1868), the son of Scottish immigrants, was a prominent mapmaker in Philadelphia during the 1840s. Like Alvin Johnson, Mitchell was quick to embrace the technological innovation of lithography in his printing and established himself as the premier American map publisher of his generation.
