Cloth in near-fine dust jacket, presentation inscription to Jack Kemp to front free endpaper, folds to upper-outside corners of a few leaves, minor correction, possibly by author, to p.37. $150. * The inscription reads: "To/ my dear friend/ + brother beloved/ Jack Kemp/ a man who has/ demonstrated his/ commitment + devotion/ to justice + equality/ for all, regardless/ of race or creed or wealth/ Jack I am proud to call/ you friend./ Benjamin/ Nov 9 2005." Hooks was a lawyer, Baptist minister, civil rights leader and government official, who served terms as the commissioner of the FCC and executive director of the NAACP. A former professional football player, Kemp [1935-2009] was a long-serving member of U.S. House of Representatives and secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W.
