A propos de cet article

Complete three-volume March graphic memoir trilogy by Congressman John Lewis, co-written with Andrew Aydin and illustrated by Nate Powell, whose expressive black-and-white artwork helped redefine the graphic memoir as a vehicle for serious historical scholarship. Together the trilogy chronicles Lewis' experiences from his childhood through the Civil Rights Movement, including the Nashville sit-ins, Freedom Rides, the March on Washington, and Selma. The series became the first graphic novel to win the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and remains one of the most widely taught graphic works on modern American history. Nate Powell's dramatic visual storytelling is central to the trilogy's impact, earning widespread critical acclaim and helping establish the work as a landmark in contemporary graphic nonfiction. All three volumes are Near Fine copies. Softcover editions with publisher's French flaps. Bindings remain tight and square with no writing, highlighting, ownership marks, or page tears observed. Interiors are bright and clean. Covers retain strong color with only light shelf wear consistent with careful handling. Book Three shows minor rubbing and light edge wear to the covers, but nothing affecting structure or readability. Overall an attractive, collectible reading set. Book One: Third Printing, May 2014 (stated) - Book Two: Number line 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2, indicating a First Printing of the first paperback edition (2015) - Book Three: Later printing (copyright 2016; number line ending with 9-13 and 2021-2023 dates indicates a 2023 printing). One of the most interesting aspects of the March trilogy is its direct inspiration from Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story, a 1958 educational comic that John Lewis credited with helping persuade him that disciplined nonviolent protest could change American society. Decades later, Lewis intentionally returned to the graphic novel format so a new generation could encounter the Civil Rights Movement through the same visual medium that had inspired him as a teenager. This makes March both a memoir and a continuation of an important tradition of educational comics in American history.…
