A propos de cet article

First edition. Quarto (8 3/4 x 11 1/8 inches). 92 pp. plus 40 full page photographic illustrations by Fred Daniels of Morris and her pupils all bound at the front of the books. Publisher's bright blue cloth with gilt spine and cover lettering. A bit of wear to spine extremities but a very good and bright copy.Margaret Morris (1891-1980) was a British dancer, choreographer, artist and teacher. She founded the Margaret Morris Movement, Celtic Ballet, and two Scottish National Ballets in Glasgow (1947) and in Pitlochry (1960). Morris devised a system of movement notation, which was first published in 1928 [offered here]. Morris worked her students hard as she had an idea to investigate and prove. In 1925 Morris began an interest in the remedial aspects of movement and gave her first lecture demonstration to doctors in London on the remedial possibilities of her exercises. She took a course at St. Thomas' Hospital in Physiotherapy which she passed with distinction in 1930. She had great faith in the value of her system for the handicapped, believing that "the more normal you make people feel, the more normal they would become". In general, Morris was part of the New Though movement that sought to integrate all aspects of one's life into a serene whole. It persists today. This copy inscribed by M. Morris to Sir William Arbuthot Lane, the late -Victorian and Edwardian periods' pre-imminent surgeon. Indeed it was due to his operations on politicians, socialites and royalty that led to his becoming a Baronette. He later became a strong believer in dietary cures and soon formed the New Health Society and thereby losing his stature as a respected physician. He believed that most of our health problems were due to chronic constipation (which is indeed unpleasant but hardly a World Crusher).…
