A propos de cet article

[2], xi, [1], 513pp, [1]. With an engraved title page. Bound by Stephenson of Parliament Street, London, in contemporary gilt-tooled green morocco, A.E.G. Lightly rubbed, spine a trifle discoloured. Early inked ownership inscription to head of title page, scattered foxing. An attractively bound copy of Sir Walter Scott's (1771-1832) most intellectually ambitious long poem; a meditation on war, patriotism and personal corruption, that concludes with Flodden, the battle on 9th September 1513 in which James IV, king of Scots, was killed and the Scottish army annihilated. Consisting of six cantos, each with an introductory epistle, Marmion was first published in Edinburgh by Archibald Constable in 1808; 2,000 copies were printed. Description de la boutique

Established 2007, Antiquates Ltd is an Antiquarian bookseller with a large, custom built shop in the heart of the Dorset countryside. We sell fine and rare books from our Wareham shop, in catalogues, and via our website (www.antiquates.co.uk). Specialising in early printed books both English and Continental, fine English Literature, and books by, for, and about Women and Children, we nevertheless stock a wide range of works on paper from 1500-present - including modern first editions. Our bias is towards the unusual, the interesting and the important - and always have a good stock of rare books by local authors such as T.E. Lawrence and Thomas Hardy; we are just the place if you're looking for an extra-special gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary or graduation. (Open Wednesday - Saturday, 10am-4pm)…
