Any book that dares to treat of the Blessed Virgin Mary must have Sacred Scripture as its source and a genuine love for our Lady as its guide. Josef Weiger’s Mary, Mother of Faith, as Romano Guardini attests in his Introduction, ably fulfills these requirements. In his prayerful and powerfully doctrinal treatment of Mary’s unique role in salvation history, Weiger first delves into the faith of Mary in its joyful, sorrowful, and glorious stages as the advent, birth, ministry, death and resurrection of her divine Son unfold; next, he considers the rich legacy of Mary as celebrated by her “heralds and troubadours”—the prophets and saints; and last, he explains, via the mysteries of the Rosary, Mary’s powerful part as the gracious advocate of all mankind, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.

Measured in pace and equally joyful and grateful in tone, Mary, Mother of Faith is certainly an accurate and authentic Mariology; it is also, and above all, a labor of love done to honor the Mother of the Savior and to increase in all her children a spirit of loving devotion.
