26x21cm, 326pp. With numerous reproductions of paving tile designs by Loyd Haberly printed in red. One of 425 copies (400 for sale) printed in black and red, bound in half-red morocco with gilt geometric decorative borders to the leather over cream cloth-covered boards, t.e.g., gilt title, decoration and device to the backstrip, errata slip tipped-in. The final SHP book which could be ranked amongst the Press?s ?fine printing? output, and one of Haberly?s last prior to his return to America following his somewhat disappointing tenure as Controller of the Gregynog Press. A classic example of the robust Shakespeare Head Press style and still a useful reference for the subject, although the claim made in the Prospectus (not present) of '. one of the most magnificent illustrated books printed since the Kelmscott Chaucer' is surely overstating things somewhat. Near Fine (minimal fading to the backstrip, small faint ?crayon mark to cloth of lower board, foxing to front pastedown and ffep but otherwise unmarked internally, a really pleasing copy).
