Dated 1937 on the title page and cover. 428 pages, including 50 plates, a bibliography, index, and measurement tables. Good condition. Memoirs of the Peabody Museum of Natural History Volume III, Part 4: The Merycoidodontidae. Binding is tight and sturdy. Covers are crisp. Corners square. Some faint rubbing near the head of the spine. Front cover is very lightly foxed, back cover is more heavily foxed. Pages lightly and evenly toned. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term biological diversity to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. He died in 2021 and we are very excited to present a selection of his books. Please browse the entire catalogue here on ABE or contact us for instructions on how to get to it. This book does not have Lovejoy's name written in it. It will come with a card stating provenance, with a picture of Lovejoy. This is an oversized book. It will require extra shipping for priority or international shipping, to get it to you safely. Please email with questions or to see any photos.

In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!
