A propos de cet article

“Michelangelo”, a monograph by Kenyon Cox, who was an Artist and Author, was published in 1914 by The Mentor Association Department of Fine Arts as Serial No. 61. This essay was then bound in a large collection of disparate articles similar to a Sammelband (a collection of articles on various unrelated subjects, bound together). The essay, a stand-alone monograph, was cleanly disbound. It is illustrated with 8 black-and-white illustrations, through the text, as well as 6 sepia gravures printed on a sturdier card stock; the article is not a definitive monograph, because of its brevity, but it touches important high points in Michelangelo’s career. The tone is genial and the essay is informative. There is a brief list of suggested readings. There are 8 monochrome pictures through the text and six full page sepia gravures. The pictures through the text are discussed, and each plate illustration is given a full page explanation. The six full sized sepia gravures are as follows : Creation of Adam, Jeremiah, Libyan Sibyl, Moses, Lorenzo de Medici, The Thinker, St. Peter’s Cathedral SERIAL : Mentor Association Department of Fine Arts, Serial No. 61 TITLE : Michelangelo AUTHOR : Kenyon Cox (1856 - 1919) - Kenyon Cox was an American painter, illustrator, muralist, writer, and teacher.
