A propos de cet article

ARTISTIC CONTEXT & OVERVIEW Late 19th-century Indo-Persian miniature from North India, featuring a romantic couple reclining in a palace garden at night. Painted with opaque watercolor and gold on thick wasli paper. Borders inscribed with Persian/Urdu poetic text above and below; the reverse bears Persian/Urdu cursive, likely from a reused letter, poetry, or account. The composition, palette, and border style indicate Jaipur or Delhi commercial workshop, c. 1870?1900. VISUAL/TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION A palace terrace scene with lovers in embrace, set against a moonlit landscape with fountains, arched architecture, and floral carpet. High-quality opaque watercolors and gold. Text panels are original, not later additions. MATERIAL/MANUSCRIPT CONTEXT Opaque watercolor on repurposed wasli paper. Gold border. Verso shows Persian/Urdu cursive, likely manuscript or account, typical of North Indian workshop practice c. 1870? 1900. CONDITION (SUMMARY) Good, age-appropriate wear, foxing, and manuscript verso. No major losses or trimming. Honest period materials. PROVENANCE / SIGNIFICANCE Produced in a North Indian workshop (Jaipur/Delhi region), c. 1870?1900, using recycled Persian manuscript paper. Poetic inscriptions are decorative, with no identified artist or patron. TRANSLATION & ANALYSIS OF REVERSE TEXT Front inscriptions (Nastaliq): - Top: 'The perfect proof, the Sacred House of God. Blessings and peace upon him. His rank is high. The explanation of faith and wisdom does not perish.' - Bottom: 'This statement: religion and wisdom do not perish. This flower has gathered sorrow in the corner of separation.' Reverse (Persian/Urdu): - Formulaic, poetic or account text, no dates or identified names. CONCLUSION Authentic late 19th-century North Indian miniature. Typical Jaipur/Delhi workshop, poetic inscriptions, and period manuscript reuse. Attractive and collectible example of commercial Indo-Persian art.…
