A propos de cet article
Complete Six Volume Set. 'This Edition of Monsieur Nicolas edited by Havelock Ellis is Limited to 825 numbered sets only of which Volume I bears the number of the set. This set is number 304.' You can see the covers of all six volumes in the photos. There is some occasional light soiling, not much. There is a stain above the bottom edge of Volume I's spine. It has NO impact on any of the pages. There are also several scuffs on the spine of the same volume. There is a crease off the top edge of both Volume I and Volume VI. There is a small bump/semi-tear off the rear top edge of Volume IV. The volumes have vellum spines. The gilt and red lettering on each is still fairly bright. The cover edges are in excellent condition, no rubbing. The cover corners look very good as well. The top page edge is gilt. I've significantly discounted this set because (see fourth photo) of the little holes at the top page edge of Volumes II and III. As a result there is a tiny notch or two (with a tiny bit of paper missing) off the top page edge of 58 pages in Volume II and 32 pages in Volume III. This notch is far from the print in all cases. There are no notches, no holes, on any of the other volumes. The middle and bottom page edges are deckled or rough-cut. They did a good job. There are a small number of instances of a thin loss at the rough-cut middle page edges in each of the volumes, none coming anywhere near the print. I went through all the pages pretty carefully. In Volume II there is a very small tan spot just off the top edge of four consecutive pages and then five other consecutive pages. All of them very far from the print. The pages in all six volumes are exceptionally clean. In fact, I didn't find any conspicuous soiling. I saw only a very few tiny tan spots off a top edge. All of the volumes are very solidly bound. They are square and their spines are straight. The pages are all nicely, tightly bound from cover to cover, and the covers themselves are all nicely, tightly bound. The inside covers of Volume I and II each have two or three light blue lines. That is not the case in any of the other volumes. There is no other writing to be found in any of the six volumes. There are no attachments of any kind in any of the volumes. And there are no markings to be found in any of the volumes. I didn't see what I would call conspicuous creasing. One of the volumes had a group of top edges with a semi-crease. I didn't see any placeholder creases in any of the volumes. There are occasional instances of crinkling, quite minor. All of the illustrations referenced on the 'List Of Illustrations' page in each volume are present and in truly excellent condition. A few of them in the two affected volumes did have the tiny notched loss off the top edge of the page-- very, very far from the illustration itself. The shipping (domestically, too heavy for international shipping)-- will be expensive and I'm going to cover it. 'Nicolas Restif de la Bretonne, born Nicolas-Edme Rétif or Nicolas-Edme Restif, also known as Rétif, was a French novelist. The term retifism for shoe fetishism was named after him (an early novel, entitled Fanchette's Foot, follows a beautiful heroine and her pretty little foot, which, with her pretty face, gets her and her shoes into lots of trouble). He was also reputed to have coined the term 'pornographer' in the same-named book, The Pornographer. Rétif was a 'pornographer' in the modern sense of the word, being a writer of graphic depictions of sex. However, he was also a 'pornographer' in the Ancient Greek sense of the word, as he wrote about the day-to-day life of prostitutes, and concerned himself with their well-being. It was the latter definition which he accepted as the rightful use of the word.'.…
