A propos de cet article

British edition. Per title page Blunt edited the book from material left to him by his great-great-niece.Gilt top fore edge. Looseness between the back of the front cover and the front end paper, o/w the binding is tight. The tissue between the frontispiece and the title page is creased but intact. Blue boards with gilt lettering. Slight bumping to the corners. Pages are clean and there is slight tanning to the paper with a touch of foxing in spots. The last page (367) and the following page were not cut. Overall a nice copy to own. No date stated in the book, but research reflects it was published in 1923. A small label inside the back cover reads: "John Howell; Importer; San Francisco." Per Wikipedia: "Elizabeth Montagu (née Robinson; 2 October 1718 ? 25 August 1800) was a British social reformer, patron of the arts, salonnière, literary critic and writer, who helped to organize and lead the Blue Stockings Society. Her parents were both from wealthy families with strong ties to the British peerage and learned life. She was sister to Sarah Scott, author of A Description of Millenium Hall and the Country Adjacent. She married Edward Montagu, a man with extensive landholdings, to become one of the richer women of her era. She devoted this fortune to fostering English and Scottish literature and to the relief of the poor. . "Montagu was a copious writer of familial letters to her coterie and beyond. Her letters include discussions of health, domestic arraignments, travel plans, and reports of social events. About one-third of her correspondence focused on culture such as theater, opera, public spectacles, moral philosophy, and divinity. Of these topics, history was discussed more than twice as much as any other topic. . "A collection of Montagu's letters were first published 1809 by her nephew and heir, Matthew Montagu, under the title, The Letters of Mrs. Elizabeth Montagu, with Some of the Letters of her Correspondents. The selection of letters reflect a concern for Montagu's moral reputation. Another edition of her letters was released in 1906 by Matthew's granddaughter, Emily J. Climenson, and her friend, Reginald Blunt. This revised collection expanded on Montagu's view of the social world including fashion, politics, and nobility.".…

Description de la boutique

I am an online seller only. I attempt to offer the best price for an item, considering rarity, costs, condition, and other factors. For USA buyers, I figure media shipping into the price. However, I do not have a bulk mailing license (at least yet) like many big online sellers do. I mail USPS media rate unless you request priority--with an added mailing costs. Unfortunately, the USPS media shipping costs have gone up multiple times in the last couple of years. In some cases, it cost more to ship the book media rate than the actual cost of the book itself. You may ask why buy from someone who does not use bulk shipping rates? CARE IN CATALOGUING BOOKS In short, because you get a better quality service. Many bulk sellers may sell the book cheaper (especially if they can bulk ship it) but most do not take the time to list book conditions carefully or add photos. So you are often buying a book without a good idea of what its condition is. They often say things like "may contain markings and other defects or be a library discard." We take care in listing and take a look inside and outside the book, noting any defects in the description. If it is a hardback we note conditions of the dust jacket, and in some cases fix deteriorating dust jackets. We also repair books if needed; if not, we describe the repair needed. If there is not a stock photo of the book or our book differs from the stock photo, we provide a photo of the book. In some case, we provide multiple photos. We often provide copies of tables of contents or book reviews (about the book notes). CARE IN MAILING Many bulk seller, take little effort in mailing your book. Some put them in a thin plastic mailing bag that may arrive with tears in the bag. We take care in shipping, and we wrap all books (except small brochure and paper) in butcher paper and a tight layer of mailing tape on top so the book has little chance of arriving damaged. Pricier and more delicate older books are mailed in cartons and also wrapped in butcher paper. The books are mailed individually and not in bulk rate, which in itself helps preclude damage in shipping. IN SHORT--BETTER SERVICE FOR A LITTLE MORE IN COST As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for. We would like to work with you and gain your trust. We accept returns and will answer any inquires by email, mail, or phone (text or voice). Thank you for reading this. Frank (sunalso)…
