Description :
A little dusted. Sewn as issued. 40pp. Edward Solly, 1819-1886, chemist and antiquary, Hon. Professor to the Horticultural Society, Professor of Chemistry, Addiscombe College, Hon. Member of the Society of Arts, one of the promoters of the Great Exhibition. The 'Trade Museum' was envisaged as a repository for all sorts of materials, raw and manufactured, in order to assist commerce, together with 'illustrations of all manufacture' demonstrating progress. The aim was to establish the museum in London 'within reach of merchants and others', to show the 'most recent improvements in each art'. An appendix lists animal products and their uses. There is no record of the Museum progressing further than this initial exhibition held in a room at the Society of Arts. N° de réf. du vendeur 98440
