Nanotechnology Applications in Soil Science

This book provides a holistic vision of various nanomaterials and their production methods, functions, fate, and behavior in the soil ecosystem. Additionally, its role in improving soil quality and plant growth and their long-term application risks on the soil community. Further, it addresses the role of novel nanomaterials in manipulating soil ecology. This book also throws light on the advances and prospects of nanotechnology in Indian agriculture. Understanding nanoscience in the field of soil science is pivotal for the students, experts, scientists, and decision-makers interested in exploring the invisible mechanisms prevailing in the soil system with different nanoparticles and deciding the suitable soil remedy under the nanotechnology approaches.

Dr. Sezai Ercisli is a professor at the Department of Horticulture, Agricultural Faculty of Ataturk University in Turkey. He was a visiting scholar at Nebraska University between 1997 and 1998. He is teaching various horticulture subjects to postgraduate level students, especially postharvest physiology of horticultural crops, characterization of horticultural plants genetic resources by morphological, biochemical and molecular markers, modern fruit production and the use modern technology in plant production (artificial intelligent, smart agriculture, deep learning). He is among the most successful 100.000 scientists according to Stanford University classification study and list of the study published in PlosBiology in 2025. Sezai Ercisli chaired many international congresses or took part in scientific committees.

Dr. Rakesh S is working as a research associate at ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, Telangana-500030, India. His research interests include conservation agriculture, carbon sequestration, integrated nutrient management, land restoration, and climate change adaptation. During his Ph.D. program, he worked on carbon pools and cleaner production practices and published his work in reputed journals. He has also worked as a senior research fellow in the Australian (ACIAR) funding Project “Sustainable & Resilient Farming System Intensification-SRFSI” from 2015 to 2019. He has received best thesis award (2019) and young scientist award (2021). Dr. Rakesh is a member of several professional societies and organizations like ISCA-Kolkata, etc.

Dr. Rahul Datta is an asst. professor in the field of Soil Science working at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic. His research has focused largely on increasing crop productivity using “green” and sustainable methods. Some of the most notable problems he has addressed through his research are drought stress, heavy metal toxicity in soil, and climate change greenhouse gas. His research has helped in increasing the quality and productivity of staple crops like wheat maize, barley, rice, and other crops like mangoes, spinach, and cotton. His work has been cited in excess of 2200 times by researchers from all over the world, including research groups at major national institutions in the United States, such as the USDA.

Dr. Deepranjan Sarkar is working as an assistant professor (Soil Science) at the Agriculture Department of Integral Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology of Integral University, Lucknow, India. He received M.Sc. (Ag.) in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry degree from Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya and Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University, India. His research interests include soil fertility, plant nutrition, plant-microbe interactions, carbon sequestration, and UNSDGs. During his Ph.D. program, he performed a comprehensive assessment of bio-priming technology in the Middle Gangetic Plains of India and presented his works at numerous national and international seminars or conferences. Dr. Sarkar is involved in teaching Soil Science subjects at UG and PG levels. He has received prestigious awards from BHU, IIT-KGP, TWAS, and the Soil Science Society of America. 

Dr. Sachidanand Singh, B.Tech. Biotechnology, M.Tech. Bioinformatics, and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, has a postdoctoral research experience from college of Pharmacy, Ohio State University, USA. His specialization area includes Plant Biotechnology, Systems Biology, and Drug design. He has more than 12 years of research and academic experience. He has served for a decade in School of Biotechnology and Health Sciences, Karunya University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He also worked as consultant for college of pharmacy, Ohio State University as a Statistical Genetics during the year 2018. He has published more than 38 research articles in peer reviewed journals and completed one SERB, Govt. of India funded project, two University research grant projects.
