406pp. Duodecimo [19.5 cm] 3/4 brown leather with decorative paper over boards. Title and decorative borders in gilt and blind on the spine. Red leather spine label. Extremities rubbed. Underlying boards exposed along the edges. Front free endpaper absent. Contemporary owner's inscription on front flyleaf. Varying degrees of foxing to the pages. Volume 2 only, therefore no map present. As stated in Wagner-Camp, "Kendall's book is the best first-hand story of the ill-fated invasion of New Mexico in 1841, an unsuccessful effort to extend the western border of the Republic of Texas to the Rio Grande. The Texans, poorly supplied and led, were captured by the Mexicans and marched to prison in Mexico City. Kendall was later released and he returned to New Orleans and his newspaper, the Picayune, which he had helped to establish five years earlier." Wagner-Camp 110:4.
