Bound in contemporary full calf; initial and terminal blanks; half-title; title-page printed in red and black; 23 engraved plates of maps (22 of these folding); head- and tail-pieces; tables in the text; rear index in columns. Condition: VERY GOOD. Collated complete. Binding tight and secure. Light rubbing to the spine ends. Interior well-preserved with some light toning, the world sphere map with a small tear. A handsome and complete copy.

Notes: An excellent, complete copy of this highly influential 18th-century textbook written by the English historical writer Thomas Salmon (1679?1767). First published in 1749, the work was designed to shift geography away from dry, purely mathematical data into an engaging narrative format that combined physical layouts with political and cultural histories.
