A propos de cet article

8vo; vi, 146 pages; slate blue ribbed cloth, horizontal bands at top of front cover, spine gilt lettered; a very nice copy. Title in red and black with small oval portrait of Cabot's head (the shop was located at the Sign of Cabot's Head). The third of the bookseller William George's great Americana catalogues; the first in 1876, and the second in 1881. Both collections were sold out, the majority of the books going collectors in the New World. This catalogue lists 2349 entries, carefully described for the time, gathered over nine years, and is priced in dollars. Interesting apology for the seemingly highish prices, an advance of those in the previous decade, but points out that Americana prices will never be lower, and the field will grow in the future. Advance copies were sent only to American collectors. Mind boggling rare book and map offerings, and the prices seem to be mostly between $ 3.00 and $ 20.00! This is an interesting copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper to the Caxton Club (Chicago) from W. Irving Way and dated Aug 22, 1898. Way, at the turn of the century, donated around 1000 books about books, bibliographies and reference books on bookbinding to the Caxton Club but, alas, the club never had a building or place to house the books, and the collection was initially stored and finally sold off. Copies from this collection have a tiny ink number at the top of the rear free endpaper - this 836.…

Description de la boutique

I have been an antiquarian book, autograph, mss, book related art and poster dealer for some 50 years. I am a graduate of Northwestern University. I was an associate of Hamill & Barker in Chicago, then manager/buyer for Marshall Field's fine Rare Book, map, print, poster, book related art, autograph and mss dept. for seven years. Sole prop. of Richard Cady Rare Books first in NY, then Chicago, and for the last 25 years in Prescott, Arizona. My bibliography and reference library consists of some 1500 volumes. My stock is about the same size. Fine selection of books about books, fine turn-of-the-century publisher's trade bindings, English and American literature, Raj India, southwest Americana, the English and American 1890s period, and rare and interesting books in all fields. I am a stickler on condition. And having been an antiquarian bookseller for over 50 years now I am beginning to entertain booksellers' inquiries re: my reference library, stock, book related posters and prints, and a large number of five-stack, glass front, Globe Wernicke book cases.…
