The "Nursing Health Assessment" collection of texts may be used independently or together in order to provide educators with the combination that best suits their needs. Each component offers an alternative to texts with approach assessment with a non-integrated focus. This suite of products uses case studies, supported by technique, to encourage critical thinking while considering cause and effect issues on the other systems and on the whole person. This core health assessment text is case study-based and uses an integrated approach to the assessment and documentation of the normal adult's physical, mental, spiritual, psychosocial, cultural and environmental health status in a variety of settings. The major themes incorporated throughout the text are health promotion, wellness and collaboration. The sound CD included with the book features 87 tracks containing 136 heart, lung and abdominal sounds, ranging from normal first and second heart sounds, split sounds and murmurs to aortic stenosis, crackles, rhonchi and bruit. All are recorded from real patients (including children). The book illustrates the relationshiop of each body system to all other body systems and there are chapters dedicated to assessment of special situations, such as spiritual assessment, nutritional assessment and the developmental levels of newborns, children, pregnant women and older adults. The text assists in the differentiation between normal and abnormal, so that students know when to refer clients to a physician or other member of the healthcare team.
