Moderate toning to text, early pencil marks to a few leaves, embossed library stamp to title page, library marking to verso, another embossed stamp to following leaf. $250. * First published in 1846, this was the first American treatise on military law published since the Revolutionary War. (Macomb's 1809 A Treatise on Martial Law deals exclusively with courts martial.) Reprinted six times between 1859 and 1869, it was the standard work on the subject. De Hart was a graduate of West Point and a captain in an artillery regiment. He served as Acting Judge Advocate of the Army during the Mexican War.
