A propos de cet article

first edition, octavo, 181 pp., lacking wrappers, ex-library, handstamps on title-page, roughly removed from pamphlet volume, several preliminary and terminal leaves detached, but present, some chipping to extremities, one leaf with long tear into text, else a good working copy. ¿Burroughs was, by any standards, a cad who tried to entice his fiancée to a house of assignation for the purpose of compromising her and thus breaking off the engagement. He then married another, and Miss Harris followed him to Washington and shot him in a corridor of the Treasury Building. Burroughs¿ brother was the president of the University of Chicago, and he took an active part in the prosecution of the case. Abraham Lincoln sent flowers to Miss Harris while in jail. She was acquitted. This is an interesting case.¿ ¿ McDade, Annals of Murder, 445.
