London: Privately printed, 1810. In original green stamped cloth. 4 volumes. Scarce. Good, quite crisp and square. Some wear at head and heel and left side of spine of volume 1. Hinges are starting but sound. Paper and text are very good. EVANS, THOMAS (1742?1784), bookseller, was born in 1742. He opened a shop in the Strand, where he published a quantity of works on English literature and antiquities, many edited by himself. His chief literary undertaking was an excellent collection of old ballads, of which a third edition was revised and published by his son, R. H. Evans. With Mervyn Marshall heraldic bookplate (Charles Hall Crouch collection of heraldic bookplates at the Society of Antiquaries of London.) And the modern bookplate of George Clinton Fairchild Williams (1857 ? 1933) an American medical doctor, genealogist, and historian who served as president of the Connecticut Historical Society from 1919 to 1922 and 1926 to 1934.
