"The Ordinary Society for Kindness to All Animals in the Art World is a printed soft-cover version of the online Manifesto written by transdisciplinary artist Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck in 2024. This printed version includes new paintings. The Ordinary Society for Kindness to All Animals in the Art World is a pioneering declaration that urges artists, institutions, curators, critics, collectors, and audiences to reimagine their relationships with human and non-human beings who have long existed in the margins of creative culture. Gathering and forming an ever growing new collective of artists, writers, ethicists, and cultural workers, The Ordinary Society for Kindness to All Animals in the Art World seeks to elevate compassion as an active principle―not an afterthought. The Society’s newly published Manifesto outlines a vision for an art world where animals are treated not merely as materials, motifs, or metaphors, but as living individuals with intrinsic worth, setting a New Standard for Ethical Creativity. The Manifesto challenges long-standing norms within artistic production and exhibition practice. It encourages creators to critically re-examine how animals (humans and non-humans) appear―physically, symbolically, or structurally―in art spaces. The document calls for an end to exploitative practices and instead champions imaginative alternatives that celebrate life while respecting the autonomy of other species. This publication is an Invitation to the Global Art Community. It is a must-read for those interested in the more-than-human in the arts and culture. The publication was launched in November 2025 at Stroom Den Haag, an Art Centre in The Netherlands.
