Ideal to engage reluctant boy readers aged 7-12. Everybody notices when the goalie gets it wrong. But it's not just the Jags who make mistakes! What could be better for encouraging boys who are reluctant to read, than a series of football-focused fiction by footie-mad Tom Watt? The Jags books feature short, bite-sized chapters telling the story of the ups and downs of a junior football team. Told in an amusing and slightly irreverent style that children will love, this series will grab even the most reluctant boy reader and allow them to gain confidence and start reading for pleasure. Interest age: 7-12+ Reading age: 7-8

Tom Watt, who wrote the Jags books, used to manage a football team. His team played to raise money for charity. They were called the Walford Boys' Club. Tom used to fix up all games. He got the kit for the players to wear. He made sure everybody got to the games on time. But Tom really liked being manager so he could pick the team and could always include himself on the team!
