Dark brown cloth with gilt spine lettering and impressed border lines to covers, clean and barely worn but for 1 cm split to bottom back hinge Vol.1, slight routine outer corner bumping. Vol.1: xxviii + 332; Vol.2: t.p. + Contents + 316 + (1 errata)+ (1 author list in German). Each t.p. has a small blue donation label over most of publisher's imprint: Presented by T.J. Ring In Memory of His Mother, Sister and Aunt' (obscures pub. date which I located on ESTC), Both front paste-downs have library plates with accession details and 'From the Library of T. J. Ring', library not named but blue oval library stamp of 'The Greater World Association' across tops, the latter recurs at end text or rear end-paper and occ. elsewhere, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked. From the library of the eminent Dr Alan Gauld (1932-2014), psychologist and parapsychologist, formerly Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Nottingham, President of the Society for Psychical Research (1989-1992) and author of numerous books on spiritualism, paranormal phenomena and the history of hypnosis. His small ex libris labels to fr. pastedown and 1989-dated signatures verso front end-paper, also two letters to hom from Pedlar's Pie bookseller slipped in. Despite faults, which are not without interest, this remains very good for age and is apparently rare in open market, only 2 recent soft back copies of odd volumes identified at time of listing. 15 cm x 22,5 cm.
