This 1739 London edition of Paradise Lost was printed for a Company of Stationers and represents an eighteenth-century reissue of Milton?s celebrated epic. The work traces the biblical story of the Fall of Man and the temptation of Adam and Eve, framed within Milton?s broader moral purpose to ?justify the ways of God to men.? An introductory biographical sketch of Milton precedes the poem, a feature typical of later eighteenth-century reprints seeking to contextualize the author?s influence. Illustrated with twelve full-page engravings, the volume reflects the sustained visual and literary fascination surrounding Milton?s verse. Full leather binding, with text block secure; rubbing and scratches to covers; pages generally clean; plates well preserved. Format: Duodecimo (12mo), single volume. Collation: 317, [43] pp. Illustrations: 12 engraved plates. Edition: (1739). References: ESTC T133921. #29695. PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. N° de réf. du vendeur 29695
