There is some creasing to the top corner of the front cover. No serious creases, tears or bumps. There are no reading creases to the spine, but there is some light rubbing to the edges of the spine. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also very good, with an owner's name and date to the top of the inside front cover. Paper stock lightly tanned. Pages clean. ***152 pages plus eight pages of publisher's adverts at the back of the book. 180 mm x 110 mm. ***'Penguin Modern Poets is an attempt to introduce contemporary poetry to the general reader by publishing representative work by each of three modern poets in a single volume. In each case the selection has been made to illustrated the poet's characteristics in style and form. The ten earlier volumes are still available and further volumes are in preparation.' (Quote taken from the back cover) The series eventually ran to 27 volumes, published between 1962 and 1979. ***'The Liverpool poets are a number of influential 1960s poets from Liverpool, England, influenced by 1950s Beat poetry. They were involved in the 1960s Liverpool scene that gave rise to The Beatles. Their work is characterised by its directness of expression, simplicity of language, suitability for live performance and concern for contemporary subjects and references. There is often humour, but the full range of human experience and emotion is addressed. "The kids didn't see this poetry with a capital 'p', they understood it as modern entertainment, as part of the pop-movement."' (Roger McGough - Wiki) ***First printing of the revised and enlarged edition, in the original card covers. One of the most popular titles in the Penguin Modern Poets series, covering the Liverpool Poets - the Mersey Sound. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. N° de réf. du vendeur PB627
