The County of Perth was formed out of the old Huron District. In 1851-1852 the following townships were part of the County of Perth: Blanshard, Hibbert, Fullarton, Downie, South Easthope, North Easthope, Ellice, Logan, Elma, Mornington, and Wallace. -- Following the move from a district to a county system of local government in mid 19th century Ontario, counties became responsible for recording all marriages within their boundaries.
