Item description from seller

Oblong octavo measuring 9.5" x 7". String-tied plastic album with "photographs" on the front board. Contains 121 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 3" and 3.5" x 6" without captions. Near fine photo album with some rubbing on the boards with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a woman from Walton, New York in the 1930s. The album begins with portraits of family members posing around their home and a group photo. After these initial photos there are eight photos from a fire, including aerial shots, which wreaked havoc on the town in 1935. Following the fire the town was ravaged by a flood, seen here in photos. Both scenes of the disasters taking place in the town show rescue workers, fire fighters, and citizens gathered around trying to solve the problems at hand. One photo shows two people looking out from a rooftop as the smoke from the fire billows in the distance. When they weren't fending off disasters the people of Walton enjoyed a bucolic life. The woman who kept the album is seen posing with her girlfriends on the stoop of their house and enjoying the various seasons from snowy winters to bright summers. Some photos show a couple dancing in the backyard as well as numerous photos of young, fashionable women posing and smiling. There are a few photos from a drive featuring girls in hats in a convertible and others from a trip to a cabin on a lake. The lake photos show the women goofing off in swimwear and enjoying the natural beauty around them as well as the camaraderie of close friends. The only two photos with captions are from a trip to Wyoming that feature the Sierra Madre range. An interesting album with nicely composed images of a young woman's life in a small town including documentation of natural disasters.
