A propos de cet article

no dust jacket, Ex library book in clean condition with only stamps stickers or markings inside the cover or title page from the library. Clean reading pages otherwise. --- A collection of essays by physicists and philosophers, edited by Craig Callender and Nick Huggett, on the problem of reconciling quantum mechanics with general relativity. The editors' long introduction asks why a quantum theory of gravity should exist at all. It examines the arguments that the gravitational field must be quantized, surveys the main research programmes, and identifies where physics and philosophy overlap. The essays are arranged in five parts. The first covers theories of quantum gravity and their philosophical dimensions, including the nature of quantum spacetime. The second deals with string theory and with black holes and entropy. The third treats topological quantum field theory and higher-dimensional algebra. The fourth relates quantum gravity to the interpretation of general relativity, and the fifth relates it to the interpretation of quantum mechanics, including proposals that gravity bears on the measurement problem. References, notes on contributors and an index complete the volume.…

Description de la boutique

Fox & Tome Books is an independent online bookshop based in Frederick, Maryland, with 13 years in the trade. The store is not huge but runs wide categorically: history, military, art, photography, science and medicine, religious studies of all faiths, occult, scholarship and reference, signed copies, first editions, the scarce and out-of-print. Don’t forget the esoteric hodgepodge/occasional risqué title. Every book is hand inspected, accurately described and shipped with care. Please inquire about any item for details or additional photos.
