In-folio, titre lithographié, 24 (de 25) chromolithographies, conservé dans la reliure de l'éditeur en demi-maroquin rouge décoré, plats de percaline avec encadrement de maroquin rouge tout autour, titre frappé or au centre du plat supérieur, quelques piqûres, corps de l'ouvrage détaché de la reliure, reliure légèrement frottée. La chromolithographie fut brevetée en 1837 et cet ouvrage est l'un des premiers réalisés en utilisant cette nouvelle technique. --- Les planches, teintées par Charles Hullmandel qui breveta son propre procédé de chromolithographie en 1840, sont d'une beauté exceptionnelle. « A very beautiful book. Apart from the brilliance, sensitivity and technical mastery of the drawing on stone there is the great, and often underestimated, technical and artistic transmission of such drawings, and in developing the cool, transparent, graduated tints, subtle in colouring, on which the book depends." Chromolithography was patented in 1837 and this work is one of the very first ones realized with this new technique. --- Plates, colored by Charles Hullmandel who patented his own chromolithography process in 1840, are exceptionally beautiful.
