A propos de cet article

An important edition of the sought after Steevens Shakespeare in a really nice original diced calf binding. Priced to be a part set. (i.e. about 1/3 price of a full set) Eight leatherbound volumes with gilt titles to the spines. William Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564 died 23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "The Bard"). His surviving works consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language, and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. George Steevens (May 10, 1736 January 22, 1800), was an English Shakespearean commentator. These are the first eight volumes of a ten volume set containing: Volume I - The Tempest, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Merry Wives of Windsor, Twelfth Night Volume II - Measure for Measure, Much Ado About Nothing, Midsummer-Night's Dream, Love's Labour's Lost Volume III - Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, All's Well That End's Well, Taming of the Shrew Volume IV - Winter's Tale, Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, King John Volume V - King Richard II, King Henry IV Part I & II, King Henry V Volume VI - King Henry VI Part I, II & III Volume VII - King Richard III, King Henry VIII, Troilus and Cressida Volume VIII - Timon of Athens, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra In full diced calf bindings. Externally, rubbed. There is some wear to the extremities including bumping to the corners, heavy rubbing to the boards and spines. There is the remains of a sticker to the rear board of Volume I. There is a name written in ink to the front blank endpaper of each volume. There is also a name written in ink to the front pastedown of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound, though the hinges are slightly strained on some of the volumes. Pages are generally clean and bright with the occasional handling mark and odd spot. The first 36 pages of Volume III are detached at the top and these could become fully detached in the post. Fair.…
