Leather worn to boards on corner edges and slightly at the bottom of the spine. Six aquatint plates from drawings taken on the spot (Lishoy Mill, The Hawthorn Tree, South View from Goldsmiths Mount, The Parsonage, Kilkenny West, The School House). Vignette of Goldsmiths Cape and Mount. Some foxing. Marginal worming affecting the three final pages (text not affected) and a blank. Occasional staining. With remarks, attempting to ascertain, chiefly from local observation, the actual scene of the deserted village; and illutrative engravings, by Mr. Aike from drawings taken upon the spot. Poems include, "The Traveller", "The Deserted Village", and twenty-eight other works. There are seven aquatint engravings by S. Aiken. Abbey states the views were taken in Lissoy, Ireland the village often accepted as the orginal 'Auburn' in Goldsmith's poem. Second Edition. v, [2], 8-182pp, modern full calf by Bayntun-Riviere, semi-raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, bands bordered by gilt rules, date in gilt to foot of spine, covers with blind single fillet border. Externally a couple of minor scrapes but generally very good, internally light browning to text, occasional light foxing, closed tear to 2Z, aquatints quite bright and clean. Original paper label laid on to ffep, with previous owners name to head. Complete with seven (six coloured) aquatints.
