À propos des auteurs: Robert Maranto teaches political science and public administration at Villanova University, and he previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania, James Madison University, and Southern Mississippi University. Mr. Maranto has done extensive research on political appointees in government, civil service reform, and school reform, producing more than forty scholarly publications. His op-eds have appeared in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Baltimore Sun, and Hartford Courant. Mr. Maranto and his wife, April Gresham Maranto, coedited School Choice in the Real World: Lessons from Arizona Charter Schools. He also wrote Beyond a Government of Strangers and coedited two forthcoming books, Charter Schools and Educational Reform and The Second Term of George W. Bush: Prospects and Perils.

r. Redding most recently served as the Vice Chancellor for Graduate Education at Chapman University, where he also held the Wang-Fradkin Chair, which is the highest honor Chapman can bestow on a faculty member for exceptional merit in scholarly or creative activity. He previously served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for Administration at the Fowler School of Law. Dr. Redding also holds appointments as Professor of Psychology in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Education in the Attallah College of Educational Studies. Previously, Dr. Redding was Professor of Law at Villanova University School of Law, Research Professor of Psychology at Drexel University, and Director of the JD/PhD Program in Law and Psychology at Villanova and Drexel Universities. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Frederick M. Hess is a resident scholar and director of education policy studies at AEI, and executive editor of Education Next. His most recent books include Educational Entrepreneurship (Harvard Education Press, 2006), Tough Love for Schools (AEI Press, 2006), With the Best of Intentions (Harvard Education Press, 2005), and Common Sense School Reform (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004). His work has also appeared in numerous academic and popular publications. Mr. Hess currently serves on the review board for the Broad Prize in Urban Education and as a research associate with the Harvard University Program on Education Policy and Governance. He is a former high school social studies teacher and professor of education and government at the University of Virginia.
