It's a preowned item in good condition and includes all the pages. It may have some general signs of wear and tear, such as markings, highlighting, slight damage to the cover, minimal wear to the binding, etc., but they will not affect the overall reading experience. This text has three main aims: to provide an introduction to probability without exposing the reader to overmuch measure theory, to discuss a wide range of random processes in some depth with many examples, and to give the beginner some flavour of more advanced work, by suitable choice of material. The book begins with basic material commonly covered in first-year undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses, and finishes with topics to be found in graduate courses. Features of this new edition include: new and expanded sections in the early chapters providing more illustrative examples and introducing more ideas early on; two new chapters providing more comprehensive treatment of the simpler properties of martingales and diffusion processes; and more exercises at the ends of almost all sections, with many new problems at the ends of chapters. The companion volume "Probability and Random Processes: Problems and Solutions" includes complete worked solutions to all exercises and problems of this edition. The book should be useful as a text for mathematics and natural science undergraduates at all levels from first to final-year degree work and useful as a reference book for graduates and all those interested in the applications of probability theory.
Revue de presse:
... aims to be a full and comprehensive account of (almost all) the probability theory and stochastic processes one could hope to teach to undergraduates ... Much new material has been included in this third edition to reflect recent developments in the subject ... As well as its masterful coverage of the material, the book has many appealing stylistic features ... extremely valuable in finding good proofs of theorems which are dealt with rather cursorily in other textbooks. (The Mathematical Gazette)
One of the strong features of the book is its large collection of interesting exercises, which has been greatly expanded in this new edition so that there are now over one thousand exercises. These are conveniently collected together in a separate volume that includes full solutions. (Biometrics)
As well as its masterful coverage of the material, the book has many appealing stylistic features. (Mathematical Gazette)
This is definitely one of my favourites as a textbook ... a wealth of interesting teaching material at all levels. (Short Book Reviews of the ISI)
Since its first appearance in 1982 Probability and Random Processes has been a landmark book on the subject and has become mandatory reading for any mathematician wishing to understand chance. It is aimed mainly at final-year honours students and graduate students, but it goes beyond this level, and all serious mathematicians and academic libraries should own a copy ... the companion book of exercises is cleverly conceived and ... form(s) a perfect complement to the main text. paperback. Etat : Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
