A pleasing new edition of this impressive history of the United Kingdom, as seen through its statistical, social and commercial development. A new edition of this work, edited by F. W. Hirst. In the original gilt stamped cloth binding. This new edition of 'The Progress of the Nation' brings contemporary information regarding the work's statistics and studies of the social, economic and commercial changes of the United Kingdom. The original edition (from English statistician George Richardson Porter) was produced at a time before government statistics had been developed or catered for, and offered as an excellent source of information. This edition edited by British journalist, writer and editor of The Economist, Francis Hirst. From the library of Christopher Turnor, an English author, architect and social reformer who is known for having designed the Watts Gallery in Surrey. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting and the odd spot to the endpapers. Very Good.…
