Hardcover. Etat : Good+. No Jacket. 2nd revised (1st-1927). xiv+605+20 (Int.Lib.Psychology, Philosophy & Scientific Method list, in which series this was issued in UK), 4 charts, 2 unfolding ex-pagination; prev.owner's small gilt label top front pastedown and 1974-dated signature top front endpaper (mine alas!), end gutter cracked exposing netting butquite secure if a tad loose, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked. Dark cloth covers clean and minimally worn, spine ends a little rubbed. Roback's best work, a wonderful treasure-house of often quite obscure writers' theories and typologies of character and temperament from Theophrastus onwards. In this final edition he made an effort to bring things up-to date, In 1927 he published a complementary bibliography for the work, the reference list having become too extensive for inclusion. A 3rd, significantly enlarged, edition was issued in 1952. N° de réf. du vendeur 010578

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. "The Psychology of Character" provides a comprehensive and scholarly examination of how human personality and moral disposition have been understood throughout history. Dr. A. A. Roback meticulously traces the development of characterology from its ancient roots in the Four Temperaments through to the burgeoning psychological movements of the early 20th century. By analyzing the intersection of ethics, biology, and mental life, Roback offers a critical evaluation of various schools of thought, including psychoanalysis, behaviorism, and experimental psychology. The work explores the distinction between temperament and character, emphasizing the role of the will and the integration of diverse mental faculties. It serves as an essential reference for understanding the evolution of personality theory, offering insights into how individual differences are classified and understood within a social and biological context. "The Psychology of Character" remains a significant contribution to the field of psychological literature, capturing a pivotal era when the study of human behavior began to shift towards more rigorous scientific methodology while remaining deeply rooted in philosophical inquiry. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
