Maroon cloth; beveled edge boards rubbed; milt sunning to spine; gilt stamping to spine and front board remains bright. Top edge gilt. Dark brown endpapers. Frontispiece b/w portrait of author retains its guard sheet. Interior leaves are clean. Binding is firm. An attractive copy of an uncommon autobiography. Concluding pages 451-458 of Appendix reprints a May 18, 1862 letter from Edwin M. Stanton (Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of War) to Reverend Dyer in which Stanton ruminates on his relations with General McClellan.
