The remarkable history of the Radford Care Group's first three decades is told by its elders, volunteers, staff and friends. All are well-known to each other. The Group offers care, activities, support and friendship. Many of its elders lived through the years when streets of terraced houses in inner-city Radford were demolished and replaced by high-rise flats. Young families often moved away. Needs have changed. For example, at one time Radford Care Group included a work centre, which was popular with elders who spent their employed years in local factories, because there was a similar sense of camaraderie. Now the Centre's facilities include special help for the frail elderly. Alan Simpson MP for Nottingham South, in his foreword says the book: 'is a celebration of what can be done when we stand up (and work) for a society in which people matter because their humanity has no 'sell by' date to it'.
