A propos de cet article

WIEBE, G.D. Radio Listening and Popular Song Tastes. Evaluation of School Broadcasts, Ohio State University, Columbus, June 1941. 11"x 8.5", 11 leaves. Mimeographed from typed originals. Staple-bound. Original self-wrappers. Provenance: Pamphlet Collection, Library of Congress. Dusted but VG copy. Interesting item from the early days of testing and evaluation of radio audiences. [++]Conclusion: "Only through the progressive sensitizing of public taste can an increasingly worthy national music be evolved". I'm not sure what "national music" means here, though I'm positive they were talking about jazz. And this: "Serious composers could perform a truly great service by.(producing) a more worth-while and stable popular-song literature". Not sure about "stable", either. And: "Music educators are the group most responsible fir the nation's musical tastes". So it sounds a bit to me like musical brutalism with this talk of "stability" and "national music". I don't know where the author was going with this thinking overall, though it does have the vapors of happygroup to me. [++] This also may be a very early piece of thinking on "social marketing", Wiebe being (evidently) a pioneer in that area. "Many scholars ascribe the beginning of the field of social marketing to an article published by G.D. Wiebe in the Winter 1951-1952 edition of Public Opinion Quarterly.[33] In it, Wiebe posed a rhetorical question: "Why can t you sell brotherhood and rational thinking like you can sell soap? He then went on to discuss what he saw as the challenges of attempting to sell a social good as if it were a commodity, thus identifying social marketing (though he did not label it as such) as a discipline unique from commodity marketing."--Wikipedia.…
