About The Translator: Manmatha Nath Dutt (1855Ð1912) was a scholar proficient in Sanskrit and Pali, a Bengali writer, historian, and translator of ancient Indian texts. Upon being conferred the title of 'Shastri,' he came to be recognized as 'Manmathanath Shastri.' Despite limited information available about his life today, it is known that Manmathanath Dutt attained MA and MRAS education. He served as the Rector of Keshav Academy in Kolkata for an extended period. Between 1895 and 1905, he held the position of Rector at Shrirampur College. Widely regarded as India's foremost translator, he rendered the Mahabharata into three volumes and the Ramayana into five volumes. Additionally, he translated Sayana's commentary on the Rigveda and various other texts, including the Markandeya Purana, Vishnu Purana, Garuda Purana, Bhagavatam, Mahanirvana Tantra, Manu Smriti, Harivamsham, Parashara Samhita, Gautam Samhita, and Kamandakiya Nitisara.
