In three volumes, this set contains a complete collection of all 208 issues of this bi-weekly periodical by Samuel Johnson. Bound in matching full light brown leather. Covers are decorated with a gilt tooled border. Spines bear a red and black label stamped in gilt lettering with blind-tooled ornamentation. Endpapers are marbled in light olive green, white, black and salmon colors. Each volume contains a black and white frontispiece engraving. On a shelf, this set spans 3.5 inches. VOLUME I: Includes Numbers 1-70, beginning March 20, 1749-50 through Saturday, November 17, 1750. 446 pp. VOLUME II: Includes Numbers 71-140, Tuesday, November 20, 1750 through Saturday, July 20, 1751. 443 pp. VOLUME III: Includes Numbers 141-208, Tuesday, July 23, 1751 through March 14, 1752. 396 pp.ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION: "The Rambler was published on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1750 to 1752 and totals 208 articles. It was Johnson's most consistent and sustained work in the English language. [.] The most popular publications of the day were written in the common or colloquial language of the people whereas The Rambler was written in elevated prose. The Rambler discussed subjects such as morality, literature, society, politics, and religion.
