A propos de cet article

Written by the greatest French pulpit orator of the Grand Sià cle, tutor to the Dauphin, and one of the towering figures of 17th-century French literature; The Oraisons Funà bres are Bossuet's most famous work, the funeral sermons for Henriette-Marie of France, Henriette-Anne of England, the Prince de Condà , and others. Still read in French lycà es today. Pasted to the front pastedown is an engraved school prize award â" an "Accessit" (honorable mention / second prize) from the Antique School of Leidrade in Lyon, dated 21 August 1826, sealed under archiepiscopal authority, awarded to a pupil whose name reads roughly "Ludovicus Bellon" (Louis Bellon) , signed by "Baron" as prefect/proviseur. The plaque carries the archbishop's coat of arms. The facing free endpaper has a period ink inscription: "Ex Dono Gabriel Bellon à son frà re" -"Given by Gabriel Bellon to his brother." So the book was awarded as a school prize to Louis Bellon in 1826, then passed as a gift from his brother Gabriel. The "Antique School of Leidrade" refers to the historic cathedral school of Lyon founded under Archbishop Leidrade (ca. 799) , later reorganized as a diocesan seminary/collà ge, a well-known Lyon Catholic institution.; 4" x 6 1/4"; 228 pages.…
